  • Mood: Yearning
  • Listening to: the aboved mentioned
but then again...

anywho. stolen from [link] who undoubtedly stole it from someone else and so one etc

10 favorite bands/artists and the first song you heard by them, song that made you a fan, and your favorite song by them now/why.

cause its fun to reflect sometimes.

1) animal collective
first song- did you see the words
song that made me a fan- purple bottle/ grass. it was the first time i'd ever heard a band that captured such an amazingly playful and hyperactive energy. i instantly felt like i connected with the music. it was the first time i felt like i could really say of a band, "this is my band"
fave song now and why- bluish. before i knew what the title to this song was i was listening to it and i thought to myself, "this song has a blue feel to it" sure enough it was called "bluish".

2) dir en grey
first- hydra. this came at a time in my life when my earphones were dominated by loud and screamy music so it instantly fit in
fan- cage. a great pop/rock song with a very late 80's early 90's alternative feel to it
now- akuro no oka. cause sometimes its the ballads that hold the stronges

3) man man
first- feathers
fan- engrish bwudd. i was blown away by this song. it was cabaret gone horribley wrong in all the right ways
now- van helsing boombox/ ice dogs. the band is insane but every now and then they let you in on the fact that they are still human. so very human

4) they might be giants
first- particle man. i first heard this song in elementary school. didnt hear the band again til the end of highschool
fan- particle man. somewhere between cradle of filth (the metal band) and some other goth rock band this song came back into my life and i said "this is good. this is what i need" and then i bought all the tmbg i could and that ultimately led me into early nineties alternative/folk/college rock. and it was good
now- they'll need a crane. because its amazing that something can sound so upbeat and ridiculous but be so sad

5) elliott smith.
first- kings crossing
fan- pictures of me
now- alameda/ say yes
sometimes you have a bad day. you get home and elliotts there to say "me too, buddy. me too"

6) pixies
first- rock music. they caught my attention
fan- velouria. they held me with their melodies
now- velouria. they keep me coming back

7) bright eyes
first- road to joy
fan- at the bottom of everything
now- first day of my life
cause sometimes we all feel hopeless and incapable of relating to other human beings

8) why?
first- the vowels, pt. II
fan- the hollows
now- gemini (birthday song)
they had me at why?

9) mewithoutyou
first- bullet to binary. it was an amazing music video. the music was heavy and angry but stood apart from all the other heavy/ angry music. particularly in lyrics. this was (and still is) a very inspired band. heres that music video for anyone who may still connect with that angst. [link]
fan- the ghost. i had bought the album based on bullet to binary. the second song on the album instantly put me off. it wasnt what i expected. the whole album wasnt what i expected. but it intrigued me. it pulled me in like no heavy band had before. and the more i came back the more i realized was there.this is one of the bands that started to turn me off of the typical verse, chorus, verse, chorus, chorus chorus. i dont believe there was one chorus on this album
now- the fox, the crow and the cookie. the band finishes its transition from an angry hardcore band to a folk band. the feelings of anger, anxiety and despair replaced by humility and praise. and still so amazingly inspired. heres that music video for anyone who enjoys some good ol folk rock. still no chorus [link]

10)the weakerthans
first- manifest
fan- plea from a cat named virtute
now- virtute the cat explains her departure
just some good indie rock

bonus!!!) the presidents of the united states of america
they only released one good album. but damnit, it was a good album!
first- peaches. dont remember when first heard this song. early nineties i suppose. but i remembered it, and i needed it
fan- lump, peaches, kitty. dont argue with me. you know you need it too
now- i cant pick one song. i love that whole album. its ridiculous, its fun, and its fuckin' nineties!!!

that was fun. its good to be excited about something and try to find ways to relate to people. i've been alienating myself too long
